Don’t let the name fool you; the Deck-Drive™ DSV Wood screw is more than just a deck screw. It’s not only great for preservative-treated decking, but can also be used for general framing and construction as well. The variety of sizes makes this a multipurpose screw that can accomplish many of your wood-to-wood fastening needs.
The DSV has many key design features that help it install faster, easier and with a clean finish every time. As if it weren’t easy enough to install before, the DSV is also available in collated strips to allow its use with many of Simpson Strong-Tie’s tool offerings. You have the ability to install with Quik Drive® auto-feed screw driving systems, including the newly launched Quik Drive Project Pro™ screw driving tool. Individual DSV screws are also compatible with the newly launched Timber Drive™ Structural Screw Fastening System as well.
Using ICC-ES Acceptance Criteria AC233 (Acceptance Criteria for Dowel-type Threaded Fasteners Used in Wood), these screws have been tested and load rated to allow for use in general framing. The newly updated load tables have the shear, withdrawal and head pull-through values of the DSV in a variety of wood types (southern yellow pine, Douglas fir, spruce–pine–fir and hem–fir). The smaller sizes of the DSV are also perfect for trim and fascia installation with a flush, clean finish.
Of course, the DSV’s bread and butter is preservative-treated decking applications, utilizing strength and ductility that set the DSV apart from other deck screws. The ductility allows the screw to bend as the wood deck boards are shrinking and expanding with the changing moisture content, while still maintaining its load-rated strength. The dual threads also allow the screw to keep the deck boards tight so you don’t have to worry about boards squeaking or lifted edges.
The DSV is offered in a variety of colors to blend in with most wood. Tan and Red DSV screws are available in both collated and bulk, and collated screws are available in Gray also. The newly launched DSV in Black, currently available only in bulk packages, is a perfect match with our Outdoor Accents® Essentials. All of these screws have been tested in accordance with ICC-ES Acceptance Criteria AC257 (Corrosion-resistant Fasteners and Evaluation of Corrosion Effects of Wood Treatments) Exposure Conditions 1 and 3. This tested coating provides you the confidence that these screws can be used in exterior environments and preservative-treated woods.
