Simpson Strong-Tie is proud to announce that one of our product engineers, Bonnie Yang, Ph.D., P.E., CFS, has been invited to give a public lecture on mass timber connections. The date of her lecture will be March 3 at 11 a.m. PST. Yang’s lecture will be part of a Mass Timber mini-lecture series hosted by the School of Architecture at Mississippi State University in partnership with the Mississippi Forestry Association.
The series will consist of eight short talks featuring mass timber industry leaders discussing topics ranging from the role of forest certification in mass timber to understanding nuanced design. The presentations are available to the University’s fourth-year college students and virtually available to the public. After the series is complete, recordings will be posted on the lecture page.
In wood structures, connections between the members are one of the most important elements to consider but also among the least understood. Yang’s one-hour discussion will cover the most widely used mechanical connections in mass timber applications, along with essential considerations for designing with them or installing them. We’ll discuss the definitions and main functions of connections in wood structures; the anatomy of tapping screws and their applications in mass timber projects; metal connector applications in mass timber projects; and recommendations during the Schematic Design phase.
With over 65 years of leadership in structural engineering, Simpson Strong-Tie is proud to offer smart solutions for mass timber.
